vanity onion generator
mine your own v3 address that starts with letters you pick. the miner runs entirely in your browser - one worker per cpu core, keys generated, hashed and checked locally. nothing is ever uploaded: there is no server endpoint for this tool at all. fair warning about the math below.
javascript is required - key generation is real cryptographic work, and it happens on your device only.
faq
- why so slow?
- a v3 address is derived from an ed25519 key pair. finding a chosen prefix means generating key pairs until one happens to match - pure luck, ×32 per character. there is no shortcut; anyone selling instant 6-character prefixes is lying.
- how does it use my cpu?
- the miner spawns one web worker per cpu core, each grinding out keypairs in a tight loop. prefix checking reads 5-bit groups straight off the public key, so the slow checksum hash only runs for actual winners. hit stop whenever - your machine, your rules.
- is this how phishing addresses are made?
- yes - exactly this technique, pointed at copying famous prefixes. which is why a matching prefix proves nothing: always verify addresses through official channels and check them with the validator.
- does mining send anything anywhere?
- no - and that is structural, not a promise: there is no server endpoint for this tool. key generation, hashing and comparison all happen on your device; watch the network tab stay silent while it runs.
- my fan is loud now
- that is your cpu doing tens of thousands of ed25519 operations per second across all cores. hit stop whenever - you can resume later and the attempt count carries over.
- how do i actually use the mined keys?
- the result gives you ready-made file contents: save them as hs_ed25519_public_key and hs_ed25519_secret_key inside your hidden service directory, point your torrc HiddenServiceDir at it, and reload tor. the address will be exactly the one shown here.
- can someone steal my vanity address?
- only if they get the secret key. the prefix itself proves nothing and grants nothing - keep the secret key offline and never paste it into a website or chat.
