text diff
paste two texts, hit compare, and see line by line what changed. handy for spotting edits between two versions of a signed message, checking whether two mirror pages really serve the same content, or finding out if someone touched your pgp notes.
faq
- is my text uploaded anywhere?
- with javascript on, the whole comparison happens in your browser tab and nothing leaves your machine. with javascript off, it runs on the server for that one request - compared in memory, shown once, never stored or logged.
- what do the colors mean?
- green lines were added in version b, red lines were removed from version a, gray lines are unchanged in both.
- does a trailing newline count as a change?
- it gets its own gentle note in the stats line instead of painting a whole fake removed+added pair of lines.
- how big can the texts be?
- up to 1000 lines per side - beyond that the comparison gets memory-hungry in a browser tab, so the tool stops and says so instead of freezing your page.
- what if a line just moved position?
- lines are matched by content, not position, so a moved line shows up as one removed and one added line rather than two changed lines.
