what is keybase?
keybase combines public key management with encrypted chat, file storage and identity proofs - you can look up a person's pgp keys, confirm they control their twitter/domain/github, message them end-to-end and share signed files, all tied to one cryptographic identity. zoom acquired the team in 2020, and much of keybase's encryption tech now powers zoom's own e2e features.
its tor mirror makes key lookup available from inside the tor network - handy when you are verifying someone's fingerprint on a machine where you would rather not leak that query to your isp. the address is published by keybase itself; treat any variant of it as hostile until proven otherwise.
status-wise this page tells you exactly one thing, reliably: whether the mirror answered our last automated probe over tor, how fast it did so, and how steady it has been across the past seven days.
before you trust any of this
- .onion addresses are long on purpose. one wrong letter = someone else's server.
- if a service matters to you, cross-check its address against its own clearnet site or PGP-signed announcements.
- a green badge here means "reachable", never "trustworthy". we report reachability only.
