what is disroot?

disroot is a volunteer-run collective that has been offering a full suite of free privacy services since 2015: encrypted email, a searxng meta-search engine, privatebin pastes, collaborative pads, file uploads and translation, funded by donations and run on principles rather than profit. accounts are free and no personal data is collected at signup.

unlike most providers of its kind, disroot publishes dedicated onion addresses for its main services rather than one front door - the webmail interface, the search engine, the pastebin, the pads, the upload service and the translator each run as their own hidden service, so a request never needs to leave the tor network. the addresses are published on disroot.org/tor and re-checked here continuously.

the practical upshot: your email login, your searches and your pastes cannot be correlated with your ip address by the platform. as always, verify the address against disroot's own page before entering credentials - lookalike onions are the standard phishing trick against mail providers.

before you trust any of this

  • .onion addresses are long on purpose. one wrong letter = someone else's server.
  • if a service matters to you, cross-check its address against its own clearnet site or PGP-signed announcements.
  • a green badge here means "reachable", never "trustworthy". we report reachability only.
