BBC News[official]

what is bbc news?

the bbc operates an official tor mirror of its news site aimed squarely at readers in countries where the international broadcaster is blocked or throttled. the mirror carries the same reporting as the main site - world news, analysis and live coverage - served entirely inside the tor network so that blocking the bbc's clearnet infrastructure no longer blocks the journalism.

the project grew out of the bbc's work with audiences in iran, china and other restrictive environments. because the mirror is run by the corporation itself, credentials and preferences work the same way as on the clearnet site - it is not a third-party scrape, it is the newsroom's own back door.

reachability of any tor service fluctuates: circuits rotate, relays drop, maintenance happens. that is why this page exists - we probe the mirror through our own tor connection around the clock and show you whether it answered on the latest check, plus its loading time and rolling seven-day uptime.

before you trust any of this

• .onion addresses are long on purpose. one wrong letter = someone else's server.
• if a service matters to you, cross-check its address against its own clearnet site or PGP-signed announcements.
• a green badge here means "reachable", never "trustworthy". we report reachability only.
